Veolia is intensifying efforts to achieve energy self-sufficiency in France by implementing a robust solar initiative. The company aims to develop more than 40 solar projects on non-hazardous restored landfills, generating 300 MW of renewable energy across 400 hectares. This capacity will meet the energy needs of 130,000 people, with the first plants operational by 2027. Despite a scarcity of land and challenging permitting processes, Veolia is also exploring solar power plants on hazardous waste landfill sites, potentially contributing to over 400 MW of renewable energy across France. Collaboration between public and private entities is crucial to overcoming these challenges and expediting the adoption of solar energy in the country.
