France headquartered TotalEnergies has begun commercial operations at two utility-scale solar farms, Danish Fields and Cottonwood, in southeast Texas. The combined capacity of these projects is 1.2 GW, which forms part of a larger portfolio of 4 GW of renewable assets that TotalEnergies currently has in operation or under construction across Texas. Danish Fields is the larger of the two farms, with a capacity of 720 MW and 1.4 million ground-mounted photovoltaic panels. It includes a 225 MWh battery storage system supplied by Saft, a TotalEnergies subsidiary specializing in energy storage solutions. About 70% of Danish Fields’ capacity is contracted through long-term Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs) with companies such as Saint-Gobain. The remaining 30% of its capacity will be used to help decarbonize TotalEnergies’ own industrial plants in the US Gulf Coast region. Cottonwood, the second project, has a capacity of 455 MW and over 847,000 ground-mounted solar panels. It will also incorporate a 225 MWh battery storage system, scheduled for commissioning in 2025.
