Heifer International, the Mott Foundation, and the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, all US-based companies, have unveiled the Distributed Renewable Energy Ecosystem Model (DREEM) HUB project, a three-year initiative from 2024 to 2026 with a projected $3 million investment. According to Heifer International, this project aims to transform Uganda’s dairy value chain by integrating solar energy solutions. It will assist 1,500 farmers and provide solar skills and entrepreneurship training to 1,000 underserved youth and women in four cooperatives in Nakaseke District. The DREEM HUB will enhance sustainable incomes and improve safe water access. The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation funds will focus on safe water access, while the Mott Foundation’s contributions will help create a self-sustaining platform to encourage public-private partnerships. The HUB is expected to advance climate-smart agriculture practices across Uganda’s dairy sector.
