ENGIE and UAC Berhad have announced a 20-year solar Power Purchase Agreement to enhance sustainable energy practices in Malaysia. The partnership entails the installation of a 7.35 MWp rooftop solar array at UAC’s Ipoh factory, addressing approximately 27% of its energy needs and reducing CO2 emissions by an estimated 7,300 tonnes annually. This reduction is comparative to removing 1,800 cars from the roads or planting over 100,000 trees. UAC’s sustainability efforts with ENGIE, which began in 2018, have led to significant energy efficiency improvements, including an 18% increase in energy efficiency for its compressed air system and annual CO2 savings of over 13,000 tonnes. These initiatives align with Malaysia’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Bill and contribute to the nation’s pledge to decrease carbon emissions by 45% by 2030, as outlined in the Paris Agreement.
