Gippsland Water has launched Australia’s largest floating solar array at the Drouin wastewater treatment plant. This 350 kW system comprises 644 solar panels, contributing to Gippsland Water’s target of 100% renewable energy by 2025 and net-zero greenhouse emissions by 2030. The array can fully power the treatment plant at peak capacity, reducing operating costs, customer water bills, and emissions. This is part of a $55 million upgrade to the Drouin plant, with the solar panels being one of the final additions since 2022. Apart from sustainability benefits, the panels reduce evaporation, enhancing the efficiency of the wastewater treatment process and potentially reducing water bills.
