The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Chinese Elite Solar photovoltaic (PV) factory in the TEDA Egypt industrial development zone in Sokhna. The facility, with a $150 million investment, was designed to produce N-type solar cells and manufacture photovoltaic systems with a capacity of 2 GW. Covering 78,000 square meters, the factory was expected to create 600 direct jobs, with the first phase of production scheduled to begin in September 2025. The project aimed to enhance Egyptian–Chinese industrial collaboration. SCZONE’s location, with four industrial zones and six ports on the Mediterranean and Red Seas, provided trade and export opportunities. The Elite Solar factory was expected to support Egypt’s photovoltaic energy supply chain and contribute to the localization of the green fuel sector, aligning with the country’s Vision 2030 target of generating 42% of energy from renewable sources.
