NHPC Ltd, India’s hydropower company, announced plans to invest INR 5,500 crore (~$660 million) in a 1 GW solar power project in Bihar. The company signed an MoU with the Bihar government during the Bihar Business Connect 2024 investor summit. The project is expected to be completed within 1.5 to 2 years from the date of land acquisition. NHPC currently operates nearly 7 GW of hydropower plants and has 9.3 GW of capacity under construction. The company is pursuing similar solar initiatives in Gujarat and other states. Additionally, NHPC plans to use the solar energy to power green hydrogen buses, starting with one bus and scaling up as production increases.
