Australia-based 5B has completed a 16.9 MW deployment of its prefabricated 5B Maverick solar array technology at Northern Star Resources’ Jundee gold mine in Western Australia. This project includes 342 Maverick units and is part of Scotland-based Zenith Energy’s ongoing retrofit, which comprises 24 MW of wind, 16.9 MWp of solar, and 12 MW/13.4 MWh of battery storage. 5B Maverick is a prefabricated, pre-wired 48-50 kW ground mount array. The installation is being commissioned and will soon integrate with the existing gas power station. Notably, the deployment on the Jundee waste rock dump is an example of using waste facilities for solar power generation. The renewable addition will meet 56% of the mine’s current power needs under a PPA with Zenith Energy which includes 24 MW of wind, 16.9 MWp of PV, and 12 MW / 13.4 MWh of BESS. The company claims this integration will significantly reduce the mine’s carbon footprint, showcasing a sustainable approach in the mining sector.
