The Yucaipa Valley Water District (YVWD) has launched a transformative project focusing on resilience and clean energy for water and wastewater management. As per the company, the initiative involves installing 7 MW of solar power, a 3.3 MW/13 MWh energy storage system, and 3.2 MW of natural gas generators with microgrid controllers at key facilities: the Yucaipa Valley Regional Water Filtration Facility and Wochholz Regional Water Recycling Facility. Managed by ENGIE North America, the project aims to enhance energy efficiency across YVWD’s infrastructure, serving over 22,000 ratepayers in Southern California’s Inland Empire. It anticipates $82 million in net savings over 28 years and will reduce carbon emissions equivalent to removing 2,105 cars annually, bolstering long-term operational resilience amid public safety challenges.
