Xcel Energy proposes a clean energy plan for the Upper Midwest, targeting over 80% carbon reductions by 2030 and potentially 88%, aligning with Minnesota’s 2040 carbon-free standard. The proposal extends the life of carbon-free nuclear plants, adds 3,600 MW of wind and solar, 600 MW of battery storage, and over 2,200 MW of always-available resources. The proposal aims to unlock $5.7 billion in tax credits for renewable energy and to keep customer expenses low. Serving five states, Xcel anticipates significant regional electric use growth. Xcel highlights past successes, saving $1.6 billion through wind farms. The company emphasizes a smooth transition for coal plant closures, with no layoffs, committing to supporting employees and communities throughout the process.
