Spain-based X-ELIO is expanding its Blue Grass Solar Farm in Queensland, Australia, which currently produces 420 GWh of renewable energy annually and has a capacity of 200 MW. Inaugurated in November 2022, the project supports Queensland’s Renewable Energy Target of 70% by 2032 and 80% by 2035. X-ELIO is integrating a 148 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to enhance the facility’s efficiency. The BESS will store excess energy during peak solar production, improving grid reliability during high-demand periods. According to the X-ELIO, the expansion will occur in two stages: 60 MW of storage will be added by Q3 2025, followed by 88 MW by Q3 2026. This marks X-ELIO’s first hybrid solar-storage project in Australia. X-ELIO is collaborating with Ingeteam and Narada to implement the system.
