Voltalia awarded 130 MW solar project in Gafsa

Voltalia, a global renewable energy company, announces the successful bid for a 130 MW solar project near Gafsa, Tunisia. The project, slated for construction in 2025 and commissioning in 2026, aligns with Tunisia’s goal of achieving a 30% renewable energy production rate by 2030. Supported by a 30-year power sales contract with Société Tunisienne de l’Électricité et du Gaz (STEG), the project’s output is expected to meet the energy needs of over 700,000 people. Leveraging Tunisia’s abundant sunshine, the project underscores solar energy’s competitiveness over imported natural gas. However, it also addresses the country’s vulnerability to climate change, given its reliance on climate-sensitive agriculture and urbanization.
