New York City-based UGE International Ltd. has announced the commercial operation of its 510 kW rooftop community solar project in Staten Island, New York. Built on the Expressway Plaza, the project offsets approximately 700 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually and powers about 140 homes. Subscribers save at least 10% on electricity bills, benefiting from rising rates. According to the company, 30% of the energy generated is reserved for Low-to-Moderate Income (LMI) households, supporting UGE’s goal to serve over 25% LMI households by 2026. Feldco, the building owner, receives long-term lease payments and a roof replacement, ensuring structural integrity for the project’s 22-year lifespan. UGE’s operating portfolio now totals 7.1 MW, with eight projects totaling 18.1 MW in deployment and construction. This project marks UGE’s 10th rooftop community solar installation in metro NYC, with two more expected to start operations this fall.
