Japan headquartered Toyota, Toyota Tsusho America (TAI), and Huntsville Utilities finished building a $49 million solar project at Toyota’s facility in North Huntsville Industrial Park, Alabama. The solar array has a capacity of 30 MW, covers 168 acres, and includes 72,000 solar panels. It will produce 62,000 MWh of electricity each year, supplying 70% of the facility’s energy needs and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 22,000 metric tons annually. This project was developed through a partnership agreement and supports Toyota’s plan to make its North American operations carbon neutral by 2035. Toyota Tsusho America will manage the long-term system.
