Germany-based RWE commissioned its first solar plant in Italy, the 8.3 MW (AC) Bosco ground-mounted solar plant, consisting of around 15,000 bifacial modules. The plant, located on a 16-hectare site in Partinico near Palermo, Sicily, supplies up to 7,000 Italian households with electricity. Italy’s new accelerated permitting process allowed RWE to reach Ready to Build in under 18 months, with construction taking around ten months. The plant utilizes an existing RWE substation to optimize land use and tackle grid scarcity. A wildlife-friendly fence was installed to allow small animals to pass through. RWE also operates 16 onshore wind farms in Italy with a combined 527 MW capacity, supplying 450,000 households. Additionally, the company is constructing the 53 MW Mondonuovo wind farm in Apulia and its first commercial-scale Agri-PV plants, Morcone (9.8 MW (AC)) and Acquafredda (9.3 MW (AC)), in Campania.
