RWE, headquartered in Essen, Germany, has begun construction on its first commercial-scale Agri-PV projects in Benevento, Italy, with a total capacity of 19.1 MW AC. RWE has recently secured contracts under Italy’s Resilience and Recovery Plan to construct two advanced Agri-PV plants—Morcone (9.8 MW) and Acquafredda (9.3 MW)—in Benevento. The projects will feature over 32,500 solar modules installed on three-meter-high elevated tracker systems with a movable axis to optimize energy yield. These projects will generate enough electricity to supply over 13,000 households while allowing agricultural activities to continue underneath. The elevated panels will provide protection from hail, frost, drought, and heavy rain. RWE will monitor energy production, meteorological data, and agricultural yield to evaluate system performance. Commissioning is scheduled by year-end 2025, integrating solar energy and agriculture while maximizing land use efficiency.
