India-based NTPC Limited has expressed interest in investing INR 80,000 crore (~ $880 million) in renewable energy projects across Telangana, including solar, wind, and 6.7GW of floating solar capacity. The proposal was discussed during a meeting between NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation Limited)chairman and managing director Gurdeep Singh and chief minister A. Revanth Reddy, who assured government support. Earlier, deputy chief minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka met Union power minister Manohar Lal Khattar seeking approvals for intra-state transmission projects under the Green Energy Corridor–Phase 3. Initially, the Solar Energy Corporation of India identified 13.5 GW of renewable zones in five districts, later revised with TGRedco(Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation Limited) to 19 GW across eight districts after assessing land and generation potential. TG Transco has submitted proposals to the Central Electricity Authority for eight transmission schemes to evacuate the planned capacity, estimated to cost INR 6,895 crore (about $75.8 million). Recently, Government of Telangana has planned large-scale solar installation across all government buildings, schools, and colleges, involving District Collectors and TREDCO for execution.
