Following Hurricane Beryl’s landfall on July 8 as a Category 1 storm, US-based Sunrun’s solar-plus-storage systems have provided crucial backup power to over 1,600 customers in the Houston area, Texas. With Beryl causing outages for nearly 3 million homes and businesses in Texas, Sunrun customers accumulated more than 70,000 hours of backup power. On average, each customer had access to 44 hours of backup energy, highlighting that many were without grid power for at least two days. As per the company, Sunrun’s storage-first strategy includes over 102,000 battery systems across the US, designed to offer backup power during outages and support the grid by providing stored solar energy during peak demand periods. This approach helps control energy costs and mitigates power emergencies.
