In a pioneering move towards sustainable energy solutions, Tokyo Bay is now home to Japan’s inaugural offshore floating solar photovoltaic (OFPV) power plant. Developed through a collaboration between Tokyu Land Corporation, SolarDuck B.V., and Kyocera Communication Systems Corporation, the project aims to demonstrate the viability of offshore solar power generation. With a rated capacity of 80 to 100 kW, the facility stores energy in land-based batteries for consumption in the Takeshiba area and beyond. The initiative aligns with Tokyo’s vision for local production and consumption of renewable energy, potentially serving as a model for urban sustainability nationwide. Future plans include integrating renewable energy into electric mobility and powering events in the Tokyo Bay area.
