New findings are presented in the Fraunhofer ISE report titled “German Net Power Generation in 2024: Electricity Mix Cleaner than Ever”, reflecting Germany’s ongoing transition to renewable energy. Germany’s photovoltaic systems generated 72.2 TWh in 2024, marking an 18% increase compared to 2023. Solar contributed 14% of net public electricity generation, with 59.8 TWh fed into the public grid and 12.4 TWh used for self-consumption. PV installations exceeded targets, with 13.3 GW installed by November and projected estimation of 15.9 GW by year-end. Solar output peaked at 8.7 TWh in July 2024. Renewables collectively generated 275.2 TWh, offsetting nuclear energy and reducing coal reliance. CO2 emissions from electricity generation halved since 2014, declining to approximately 152 million tons.
Germany achieves 62.7% renewable energy in 2024
