Sol Systems collaborates with the American Farmland Trust (AFT) to promote environmentally friendly solar energy projects. Their “Smart Solar” initiative aims to minimize environmental impacts while enhancing ecosystem-focused practices at solar sites. The partnership will leverage AFT’s expertise in sustainable agriculture to improve land stewardship across Sol Systems’ utility-scale portfolio. Over the next four years, Sol System will develop solar sites across the Midwest, with a 2,000-acre research partnership to test soil health and beneficial vegetation impacts. Agrivoltaics projects, such as a 37-acre site in Illinois cultivating Kernza, will demonstrate the benefits of combining agriculture with solar energy.
