China-based LONGi has announced the completion of a 1.2 MW rooftop solar system at Simba Cement’s Nairobi facility, marking the first use of Hi-MO X6 modules in East Africa. Developed and managed by Africa-based New Southern Energy (NSE), this project showcases both aesthetic and high-efficiency advancements. As per LONGi, the Hi-MO X6 modules feature a busbar-less design for a smoother surface, while the system utilizes China-based Huawei’s 100 KW inverter. The system is expected to produce 2,198.77 MWh of electricity annually. This development comes in response to the recent fuel levy increase by Kenya’s Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) and supports Kenya’s Sustainable Development Goals of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2030.
