Infinity Power, a joint venture between Netherlands-based Infinity Group and UAE’s Masdar, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sierra Leone to develop 1 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2033. According to Infinity Power, the project will involve expanding hydroelectric dam capacity and installing floating and ground-mounted solar PV systems, with potential additions of wind and battery storage. Infinity Power will work closely with Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Energy to conduct feasibility studies, secure permits, and finalize PPAs with the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA). The initiative, discussed at Sierra Leone’s First National Climate Dialogue in October 2023, aligns with President Bio’s vision to develop a 1 GW generation capacity for regional energy trading over the next decade.
