Italy’s Saipem, through its Norwegian subsidiary Moss Maritime, has developed XolarSurf, a modular floating solar technology in partnership with Norwegian manufacturer Kystteknikk. Launched off the coast of Frøya, Norway, the system features modular floaters that generate 35-45 kW each and are designed for offshore environments. XolarSurf is engineered to withstand waves up to 8 meters. The project will undergo a year-long trial to monitor its performance and assess its suitability for renewable energy generation in marine conditions.
