US-based RWE and German football club Borussia Dortmund have forged a six-year alliance, designating RWE as the club’s ‘Premium and Sustainability Partner.’ According to RWE, the collaboration focuses on an energy optimization strategy for SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. The upgrade of the stadium’s PV system, features over 9,500 solar modules with a peak capacity exceeding 4.2 MW, making it Germany’s largest PV installation on a stadium roof. The system will include a 3.4 MWh battery storage to ensure continuous supply of green electricity. The setup will cover energy needs for home matches, with surplus power sold to the grid by RWE. Previously, RWE had installed over 200 solar modules on the Borussia Dortmund Fan World roof.
