Doha-headquartered QatarEnergy, a state-owned integrated oil and gas company, has announced a solar power project in Dukhan, which is set to double Qatar’s solar energy production capacity to around 4 GW by 2030. The 2 GW Dukhan Solar Power Plant will be among the largest globally. The project is expected to reduce CO2 by over 4.7 million tons annually. This new plant will expand QatarEnergy’s existing solar portfolio, which includes the 800 MW Al-Kharsaah Solar Power Plant inaugurated in 2022, and two additional projects in Ras Laffan and Mesaieed industrial cities, collectively producing 875 MW. These latter projects are anticipated to begin operations before the end of this year. With the addition of the Dukhan Solar Power Plant, solar energy will account for 30% of Qatar’s total electricity production capacity.
