QatarEnergy signed a partnership agreement with TotalEnergies to jointly develop a solar power project as part of Iraq’s Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP). In this agreement, QatarEnergy acquired a 50% stake in the project, with TotalEnergies retaining the remaining share. This large-scale solar initiative, situated in Iraq’s Basra region, will use 2 million bifacial solar panels with single-axis tracking, generating up to 1.25 GW of electricity once fully operational. The project, phased out from 2025 to 2027, is expected to provide clean energy to around 350,000 homes. The partnership supports the GGIP’s broader goals, including enhancing Iraq’s energy sector, expanding renewable energy, and reducing flared gas in the Basra region.
