Denmark-based Ørsted, a global leader in renewable energy, has started operations at the Mockingbird Solar Center in Lamar County, Texas. The 468 MW solar project powers 80,000 homes and includes a $500 million investment. It integrates conservation efforts by donating 953 acres to The Nature Conservancy for the Smiley Meadow Preserve, protecting rare tallgrass prairie habitat. The project also contributes $75 million in property taxes, created 550 construction jobs, and supports local schools and public services. Ørsted worked with local businesses and US manufacturers to complete the project.
