The Government of Uttar Pradesh in India plans to develop floating solar power plants in partnership with major energy companies, including NTPC, as part of its goal to generate 14,000 MW of solar power by 2027. Floating solar projects are proposed across seven reservoirs in collaboration with NTPC, THDC, and SJVN, according to a state official. The state has received renewable energy investment proposals totaling INR 7 trillion (~$829.52 billion), including Rs 57,000 crore under the UP-State Bio-Energy Policy 2022. Additionally, plans include solar parks with a combined capacity of 4,800 MW, with the tendering process underway. As part of the ‘PM Surya Ghar Yojana,’ the state aims to connect 2.5 million households to solar energy over three years. Currently, 48,000 homes have been equipped with solar panels, with 30,000 more expected by the end of FY 2024-25.
