NovaWind, a Russian company, plans to deploy 200 MWp of PV energy in Mali to tackle the nation's persistent electricity crisis. Transitional president AssimiGoïtahas initiated the project by laying the foundation stone on May 24. Spanning 314 hectares, this installation will be sub-Saharan Africa's largest solar power plant, located approximately thirty kilometers from Bamako. With a €200 million investment, it's expected to be operational within 12 months, providing about 10% of Mali's electricity upon completion. Mali has also recently approved modifications to a concession agreement for another 50 MWp PV plant, further strengthening its renewable energy infrastructure.
