US-based National Grid Renewables has signed a PPA with Microsoft for the 250 MW Portage Solar Project in Portage County, Wisconsin. Construction is set to start in 2025, with operations expected to start by 2027. National Grid Renewables claims the project will generate millions in new tax revenue, local spending, and job creation, with its direct economic impact estimated to reach $88 million over the first 25 years. Additionally, the community will benefit from a unique charitable fund, contributing to social and environmental initiatives beyond the project’s tax revenues. As part of the agreement, National Grid Renewables will donate $20 million to a community fund managed by the Sustain Our Future Foundation, throughout the project’s life.
