Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the International Solar Festival 2024, organized by the India-based International Solar Alliance (ISA). ISA, co-founded by India, consists of 119 member countries, with a mission to advance solar energy, especially in developing nations. Modi emphasized democratizing solar manufacturing and technology for these regions. According to ISA, it is collaborating with Morocco-based Africa50, serving as the investment manager for its $200 million Africa Solar Facility. This initiative aims to finance small-scale solar projects in Africa, particularly where perceived risks have hindered investment. Dr. Ajay Mathur, ISA’s Director General, highlighted the importance of expanding solar investments beyond limited regions. Leaders from Bhutan and Mauritius acknowledged ISA’s efforts in supporting rural solar energy adoption and aiding small island nations.
