US-headquartered MN8 Energy announced it will own and operate the 135 MW (AC) Prairie Solar project in Champaign County, Illinois, with 50 MW(AC) dedicated to the City of Cambridge’s virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA), the largest VPPA by a US city. Cambridge’s share will generate 113,000 MWh of clean energy annually, powering over 25,000 households and avoiding 70,510 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually by displacing fossil fuels on the MISO grid. The project, designed with local community input, will create 300 construction jobs and is expected to be operational before 2026, bringing economic benefits to the area.
