Minnesota Power, a division of ALLETE Inc., has announced plans to construct two large-scale PV energy projects in northern Minnesota. The Boswell Solar project, partly owned by Minnesota Power, in Cohasset will generate 85 MW of power, using about 180,000 solar panels spread over 600 acres. The 119.5 MW Regal Solar project near Royalton will be spread over 800 acres powered by 255,000 solar modules. Both projects were selected through a competitive bidding process and are expected to be operational by mid-2027. These PV projects will help Minnesota Power to advance its goal of reaching 80% renewable energy by 2030, in alignment with the state of Minnesota’s goal of reaching carbon-free energy by 2040. The projects are awaiting regulatory approval, including from the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (MPUC).
