Meridian to build 120 MW PV farm in New Zealand

New Zealand-based renewable energy company Meridian Energy has received resource consent to build a 120 MW solar farm at Ruakākā, Tai Tokerau Northland, New Zealand. The farm will include up to 250,000 solar panels, producing between 150 and 200 GWh annually, sufficient to power over half of Northland’s homes. This project will improve energy resilience in the region by reducing its reliance on electricity generated elsewhere. The solar farm is part of Meridian’s larger Ruakākā Energy Park, which also includes a 100 MW battery energy storage system currently under construction. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2025, with completion expected in late 2026, pending the Meridian Board’s final investment decision.
