Mercadona has completed its largest solar installation at its logistics centre in Abrera, Barcelona, bringing its total renewable energy capacity to 100 MW. The company now generates 125 GWh annually, enough to power 40,000 homes, reducing CO2 emissions by 16,000 tonnes per year. Since 2020, Mercadona has invested over €75M in solar panels, installing around 200,000 modules across more than 400 stores, logistics centres, and offices. The Abrera project alone, with 16,500 panels, generates 9.5 GWh/year, cutting CO2 emissions by 1,270 tonnes. Mercadona aims to reach 250 MW of photovoltaic capacity, covering 15% of its annual energy consumption.
