Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s clean energy company, signed a Joint Study Agreement with Malaysia’s Sarawak Energy and Gentari to evaluate the feasibility of a floating solar power plant on the Murum Hydroelectric Plant reservoir in Sarawak, Malaysia. This project, Masdar’s second floating solar venture in Southeast Asia after its 145 MW Cirata plant in Indonesia, would contribute to Malaysia’s goal of reaching 31% renewable energy by 2025. The feasibility study will assess technical requirements, environmental impacts, and economic viability, determining the project’s potential to enhance Sarawak’s renewable capacity. By reducing land use and integrating hydroelectric resources, floating solar projects like this aim to support sustainable energy development in regions with limited land availability.
