UAE-based Yellow Door Energy (YDE), an independent power producer, has signed a 24.5 MW (20 MW (AC)) solar power purchase agreement (PPA) with PPC Ltd, a supplier of cement in South Africa. The project followed a solar wheeling arrangement, where YDE’s solar park in Leeudoringstad, Northwest Province, supplied electricity through the Eskom grid. The power was delivered to four PPC sites: PPC Slurry, PPC Dwaalboom, PPC De Hoek, and PPC Riebeek. Over 20 000 panels were planned to produce 57.5 million kWh in the first year, reducing 59 800 metric tons of carbon emissions. A 43-kilometre overhead line was built to connect the solar park to an Eskom substation. YDE was responsible for the full development and operation of the Naledi Ya YDE Solar Park. The agreement allowed companies to use solar energy without upfront costs or taking on operational duties, helping them manage energy expenses while focusing on their main activities. Recently, Yellow Door Energy partnered with EMSTEEL Group on a 31.5 MW rooftop solar project.
