TOYO Co., Ltd, a Japan-based solar technology manufacturer, has begun commercial operations at its new solar module manufacturing facility in the Houston metropolitan area. The plant was granted a Certificate of Occupancy by the City of Houston recently, marking the start of full-scale production. The facility is designed to produce up to 1 GW of high-efficiency PV modules annually to meet increasing US demand for locally made solar equipment. According to TOYO, modules manufactured at the plant are expected to qualify for Section 45X tax credits of up to $0.07 per watt through 2030. Earlier this year, the company has strengthened its US market presence by acquiring the VSUN brand to support its domestic expansion. Chairman and CEO Junsei Ryu has said that this milestone represents a key step in TOYO’s “made-in-USA-for-the-USA” strategy to strengthen domestic solar supply. TOYO has also planned future integration of upstream wafer, midstream cell, and downstream module production to expand its US manufacturing footprint.
