South Africa-based Sasol International Chemicals, a division of Sasol Limited, has signed a virtual power purchase agreement with Akuo in Texas. The deal secures 91MW of solar capacity from the Tennyson solar farm. This project is scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2026. It will provide 250,000MWh of renewable electricity annually to Sasol. About 50percent of Sasol’s Lake Charles Chemicals Complex demand is expected to be covered. The agreement is estimated to cut Sasol’s CO2 emissions by 90ktpa. The Tennyson plant, with a total planned capacity of 195MW, is Akuo’s first solar project in the United States. Up to 400 workers are expected during construction. Sasol has also secured renewable electricity agreements for plants in Germany, Slovakia, Italy, and China. 3Degrees has advised Sasol on the agreement.
