OX2, a Sweden-based renewable energy developer, has received EPBC approval for its 135 MW Muswellbrook solar and storage project in New South Wales. According to OX2, the facility is being developed in partnership with Idemitsu Australia on land adjacent to the Muswellbrook Coal Mine, which was closed in 2022, with most of the site owned by Idemitsu. The project has already secured development approval and is part of a wider plan to redevelop the former mining site into an industrial and energy innovation hub. This has been OX2’s second Australian project to receive EPBC clearance, following the 90 MW Summerville solar and storage project approved in July 2025. OX2’s Australian portfolio currently includes 3.7 GW of solar, wind, and storage projects under construction or development, and OX2 manages 390 MW of operational renewable energy assets nationwide. Earlier this year, OX2 had announced plans to construct a 51 MW solar farm in Poland.
