LONGi, a China-based solar technology manufacturer, has supplied Hi-MO 9 back-contact modules for the FITULA solar PV plant in Chingola, Zambia. The project, signed in June and located in Copperbelt Province, is designed with 10 MW AC and approximately 12 MWp DC capacity, spanning 12.41 hectares. According to LONGi, the plant integrates 640 Wp bifacial modules with 23.7% conversion efficiency and is expected to generate 22,836 MWh annually once commissioned later this year. The facility will support a Chinese copper company by replacing diesel dependence, lowering electricity costs, and ensuring stable power supply in Zambia’s high irradiation conditions. The deployment is in line with its national policies to encourage renewable electricity for mining, resolving grid uncertainty and unpredictable fuel prices, as per the Zambian government. Recently, LONGi has partnered with CAPP to expand solar access in rural Africa, showing continued engagement in the region’s energy transition.
