Global South Utilities (GSU), Abu Dhabi-based energy firm, has commissioned the Noor Chad PV plant in N'Djamena, Chad's first utility-scale solar power plant with a 50 MW capacity. The project features 81,000 modules, 158 inverters, and a 5 MWh BESS to be used for ramp control and short-term balancing. Construction took over 350,000 work-hours, and the facility will generate enough electricity to power 274,000 homes while decreasing reliance on imported diesel. In its lifetime, the facility will replace an estimated 1.36 million tonnes of CO₂, GSU states. GSU has also opened a 53 MW solar power project in Shabwah earlier this year, which shows its ongoing contribution to increasing regional renewable capacity. GSU further stated that the Noor Chad project shows on-time execution from signing the contract to commissioning and enhances grid resilience via integrated storage.
