Georgia Power, an Atlanta electric utility company, has gotten the nod from the Georgia Public Service Commission for five new solar projects with a combined capacity of 1,068 MW. These projects were competitively awarded through the CARES RFP process outlined in Georgia’s 2022 Integrated Resource Plan, according to Georgia Power. The facilities that have been approved are a 260 MW facility in Mitchell County with a 25-year PPA and a 200 MW facility in Coffee County with a 30-year PPA. Wilkinson County has been confirmed by Georgia Power to have a 183 MW facility with 91.5 MW battery storage and a 20-year PPA. The other facilities include 200 MW in Jefferson County and 225 MW in Laurens County, both under 20-year agreements. Georgia Power has indicated that these PPAs will offer long-term capacity and energy value to customers across Georgia. Earlier this year, Georgia Power sought PSC approval for a 350 MW solar plus storage project in Georgia, expanding its renewable pipeline.
