Avangrid, a renewable energy company headquartered in Connecticut, and part of the Iberdrola Group, has signed a PPA with Amazon. The agreement is for electricity from the 57 MW DC (41 MW AC) Oregon Trail Solar project located in Gilliam County, Oregon. The facility is scheduled to begin commercial operation in 2027 and is designed with more than 100,000 installed solar panels. Avangrid has stated that the project is expected to generate electricity sufficient to power about 10,000 US homes annually. Construction is projected to create nearly 200 jobs, most of which are expected to be filled by local union labor. Over its lifetime, the Oregon Trail Solar project will contribute approximately $6 million in property taxes and PILOT payments to Gilliam County. This project is the second agreement between Avangrid and Amazon in the Pacific Northwest, following the Leaning Juniper IIA repowering project. Earlier this year, Avangrid has deployed SEG Solar modules for the 166 MW Tower Solar project also located in Oregon.
