AES Corporation, a US-based energy company, has deployed advanced solar robotics at its largest solar-plus-storage project in California. Muqing Li, Lead Performance Engineer at AES Corporation, has developed an autonomous deployment system based on SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) technology. The system integrates stereo cameras, depth sensors, lidar, and inertial motion data using an Extended Kalman Filter to enable precise operations in unmapped environments. According to AES Corporation, this technology allows autonomous solar installation with 0.25 cm accuracy and has been implemented at the 2 GW Bellefield project. Muqing Liβs EDNET deep learning model is used to improve installation accuracy across OEM solar panels. His SLAM code, released under the MIT license, is widely adopted and recognised as a benchmark for robotic localization in solar energy projects.
