The AES Corporation has completed the first 1GW phase of its 2GW Bellefield solar-plus-storage project in Kern County, California. The project operates under a 15-year agreement with Amazon. Each phase includes 500MW of solar and 500MW of four-hour battery storage. Once finished, Bellefield will become the largest solar-plus-storage facility in the United States. Construction of Bellefield 2 is scheduled for completion in 2026. AES used its AI-enabled Maximo robotic system to support faster and safer solar module installation. The full project is expected to supply electricity equivalent to 467,000 homes annually. It will also displace more than 1million metric tons of CO₂. Over 700 union jobs were created during Bellefield 1, with 1,000 more expected at the peak of phase two. AES plans to recognize related earnings in the second half of 2025. The company holds 10.1GW in clean energy contracts with hyperscale clients.Under two long-term PPAs, AES Corporation is also supplying 650 MW of solar power to Meta's data centers.
