Lightstar, in collaboration with the City of Detroit, launched the “Locally-Sited Utility-Scale Solar” project, integrating solar energy with urban agriculture. Phase I features solar installations at State Fair and Gratiot-Findlay, with a combined potential of 10MW. Lightstar partners with urban farming entities to provide fresh produce to Detroit residents and enhance food distribution. The project includes Community Benefits packages offering energy efficiency upgrades to homeowners and focuses on engaging Black, Latinx, and Indigenous communities. Supported by Detroit’s Climate Strategy, the project aims to foster resilient communities, promote sustainable development, and empower local businesses and artists. Lightstar collaborates with American Farmland Trust and Michigan State University Agricultural Extension to gather data and inspire similar initiatives nationwide.
