Leeward Renewable Energy has completed the construction and begun operations of the 200 MW Horizon Solar Project near Pearsall, Texas. The project supplies renewable energy to Verizon through a Renewable Energy Purchase Agreement. Expected to prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to powering 1.2 million Texan households, it will also contribute approximately $30 million in tax payments to the local community and generate around 400 jobs during construction. Leeward Renewable Energy employs sustainable land management practices at Horizon Solar, including sheep grazing for vegetation control, a biodiversity management plan, and planting pollinator-friendly native plants. These efforts boost land productivity, provide additional income for farmers, and support the transition to clean energy.
