LandGate has published a white paper detailing the current state and future potential of solar energy development in South Carolina. As of August 2023, the state boasts 108 operational solar farms with a combined capacity of 1,503 MW, generating 159,167 MWh annually. On average, each solar farm occupies 116.1 acres and produces 13.9 MW. The report highlights ongoing and future projects, including 5 solar farms under construction (10 MW) and 25 planned farms (1,638 MW). This expansion includes 3 utility-scale projects and 2 site control projects. Upon completion, South Carolina’s solar capacity is projected to grow by 110%, reaching 1,648 MW, solidifying its leadership in solar energy development.
